Elma Claire (Benjamin) Stone, age 84, of Waterford, was born December 29, 1934 and passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on February 17, 2019, reuniting her with the love of her life, husband Howard E. Stone, and son, Lewis H. Stone. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Roberta D. Wilmot Benjamin, and many other family and friends.
She is survived by two sisters, Nellie and Evelyn, and one brother, Robert; her children– Ruth E. (Stone) and Martin Book, Lydia (Lewis) Stone, Susan R. (Stone) and John Miller III, Carol F. (Stone) and Thomas Bostaph, and Janet L. (Stone) and David Shields; her grandchildren– Heather, Holly, Philip, Daniel, Valerie, Robert, Benjamin, John, Emily, Bethany, Andrew, Timothy, Corey, and Derrick; also, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Elma loved serving her church, the Waterford Baptist Church, her family and friends, and she loved being a homemaker, wife and mother. She had worked at Bayside Nursing Home and Waterford Middle School, where the kids all called her “Grandma”.
Elma and Howard were founding members of the Waterford Baptist Church and the family requests memorial donations be sent there at East 3rd Street, Waterford, PA 16441.
Friends and family may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Waterford Baptist Church on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. with a time of visiting starting at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
