Theona M. Sekel, 92, of Cambridge Springs passed away after a period of declining health on June 2, 2019, at Edinboro Manor. Theona was born on May 21, 1927, in Rockdale Township, the daughter of the late Frank Knuth and Mary Marzka Knuth. On February 2, 1952, she married Nicholas J. Sekel. Theona had worked for the Carnation Company in Cambridge Springs and also for John and Larry’s IGA store in Edinboro. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Crossingville where she was active in the Ladies Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by brothers: Albert, Frank, Ralph, Sam, and Robert Knuth; and sister, Bertha Caldwell.
Survivors include husband, Nicholas J. Sekel of Cambridge Springs; son, James Sekel and his wife, Barbara of Mars, PA; daughter, Constance M. Sovisky and her husband, Randall of Cambridge Springs; grandson, Jacob Sekel; granddaughter, Kylie Lerch; grandson, Thomas Sovisky; granddaughter Lauren Sovisky; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral in Cambridge Springs on Wednesday, June 5, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at which time a Panikhida Service will begin. A funeral service will be held on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church with the Archpriest Reverend Daniel Mathewson of the church officiating. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery with a repast meal following at the church hall.
