Vera Lucille Racop Besonson, formerly of Cambridge Springs, PA, died Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Granite Creek Health & Rehab Center in Prescott, AZ. She was born May 3, 1926, daughter of the late Timothy and Julia Marie Racop, and was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald Besonson in 2013.
Don and Vera enjoyed traveling, and camping was one of their favorite things to do. Vera worked several years at the former San Rosario Nursing Home in Cambridge Springs, but was a homemaker most of her life and was very talented at sewing, knitting and crocheting. She made many sweaters and blankets for her grandchildren and others, along with afghans and doilies. She also made many baby blankets for the Linus Project.
Besides her parents and husband, Vera was preceded in death by an infant son and daughter, and by her siblings Howard Racop, Ethel Turner and Ruth Lawrence. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Dustin Manross and Andy Besonson, and a great-granddaughter, Everly Reigh Fitzsimmons.
Vera is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Kim Besonson of Prescott Valley, AZ, and a daughter, Karen Manross of Mesa, AZ. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Ed (Katrina) Besonson and Tiffany (Jason) Fitzsimmons of Arizona, Jim (Erinn) Manross of Erie, and Adam (Robin) Besonson of Mill Village; three step-granddaughters, Cindy Biebel of Orlando, Carrie (Ben) Biebel of Waterford and Karen (Chris) Hirtzel of North East; and several nieces and nephews. She is further survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Kacie Besonson; Kaitlyn and Kristina Dominguez; Sarah, Carissa, Norah, Amelia and Vaida Manross; Greyson Fitzsimmons; and Amelia and Rowan Hirtzel.
Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
