Elizabeth A. “Liz” Novotny, 90, of Cambridge Springs passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at the Crawford County Care Center. Liz was born in Meadville on February 26, 1930, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Miller Homitz. She graduated from Cambridge Springs High School with the class of 1947, and on April 18, 1953, she married Vincent Novotny, whom preceded her in death on February 16, 2000. For thirteen years, she had worked for General Electric and had also owned and operated Novotny’s Inn (now UD’s bar) in Mosiertown for seven years. Liz belonged to the Polish National Alliance, the Venango VFW, post 169, the Cambridge Springs American Legion post 381 auxiliary, and had been a volunteer for over twenty-five years at the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home of Erie. As a faithful member of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church of Cambridge Springs, she sang with the choir for many years.
In addition to her husband, Vincent Novotny, she was preceded in death by brothers: Joseph, Francis, and Jim Granat.
Survivors include daughter, Cynthia Gettys, and her husband, Darrell, of Cambridge Springs.
A funeral service will be held at the Van Matre Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Father Mark Nowak officiating with interment to follow at St. James Cemetery in Crossingville.
