June Marie Mihalak, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2021, with her loving children by her side. June was born in Springboro on May 27, 1932, the daughter of Leon and Etta Holits Barton.

A strong Christian, and kind and loving mom and grandma, June was always a vital part of her family’s lives. She was always available for the family she loved. Her grandchildren have many fun and wonderful memories of days spent with Grandma, who always had time to play games, take care of them, and bake and cook goodies for them. Her children always knew they could count on her to help whenever they needed her.

As a young woman, June attended Eastern Nazarene College, and Erie School of Practical Nursing. She used her skills and education to provide nursing care to the residents of Rondale Nursing Home and Pleasant Ridge Manor, where she worked and retired. June loved to knit, crochet and fish with her grandchildren – and she stayed sharp doing crossword puzzles.

June was a charter member of both the Wesleyan Albion Church of the Nazarene, and the Edinboro Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene, where she was deeply involved teaching Sunday School, playing the piano and organ, and leading ministries to missionaries and senior citizens. In recent years, she often attended McLane Church in Edinboro with her family.

Left behind to mourn her loss are her son John Thomas, and his wife Amy, of North Carolina; her daughter Patty Metzenbacher, and her husband Tracy, of Edinboro; her daughter Kim Winkelbauer, and her husband Norb (Foobie), of Edinboro; the 11 grandchildren she loved dearly; 8 great grandchildren; her sister Shirley Hedglin who has been sharing a room with her at Edinboro Manor for the past couple of years; her former husband John Thomas of North East; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her second husband Wendell Mihalak; and two brothers Melvin (Grace) Barton and Gene (Verna) Barton.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home of Edinboro on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-7. A Christian funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm. Burial will take place Monday at 11:00 at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
