Darlene D. Olson, “Dolly” as she is known to her family and friends, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 25, 2021, age 82, after an ongoing battle with cancer. She was born in 1939 to Elmer and Mary Herring. She is survived by her siblings Alberta Snyder, John Herring (Beth), Carolyn Andrzejewski (John), and David Herring (Judy). She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Olson and siblings Ellis and Joan Herring, Edna Lincoln, Shirley and “Bud” Williamson, brother-in-law Nelson Herbert Snyder, and son-in-law James Weary.

Some of the best years of Dolly’s life began when she married Bob Olson in 1991. He was the person who loved her unconditionally and shared her faith in God. Together they traveled the continental United States, taking time to see all they had ever dreamed of seeing and doing. She worked for General Electric for over 30 years and saved for her retirement. This enabled her to spend time enjoying her children and grandchildren and especially her relationship with Bob, caring for him until his death in 2006.

Their combined families included 10 children: She is mourned by Dan Nakoski (Brenda), Paul Nakoski (June), Cynthia Olson-Weary, John Nakoski, Cynthia Nakoski, Valerie Hanes (Mark), Peter Nakoski (Kathy), William Nakoski, Loretta Blakeslee (Kyle), and Christopher Nakoski. She was grandmother to 14 and great-grandmother to 7. She was also “Aunt Dolly” to many nieces and nephews.

Dolly’s faith in God provided her the courage and the strength to make it through the difficult times in life. She was an active member of Waterford Baptist Church for many years, participating in choir, women’s Bible study, assisting with children’s programs, food preparation, and any other needs she could fulfill. She was a strong woman and always trusted God more than her circumstances. The power of her prayers sustained and guided her family through difficult and joyous times. She was beautiful from the inside out and will be dearly missed.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Friday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m., and then from 6:00 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Mike Wells will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waterford Baptist Church.
