Benjamin Ira Hinkson, age 61, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 10, 2021 at his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 8, 1960, in Waterford, to the late Ira and Lillian (Estes) Hinkson.

Ben and Gretchen (Anderson) were united in marriage on February 13, 1982.  Lifelong friends and partners, Gretchen and Ben ran Hinkson Dairy Farm side by side until retiring in 2020. He dedicated his life to the family farm, which dates back to 1739, and was a devoted and loving father who adored his 4 children. Ben was a gentle soul who always had a twinkle in his eye and a chuckle on his lips.  He could build or fix anything – isn’t that the way of a farmer? – and was an avid hunter and steward of the land.  Since his diagnosis of cancer almost 2 years ago, he went on to discover a new passion and amazing talent – chain saw and wood carving.  Ben was a loving Christian man who treasured his family as much as his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A compassionate and soft-spoken man, he could always tell a story that was funny, insightful and God-honoring. If you were lucky enough to have a “talk” with Ben, you were blessed.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Gretchen; his 4 children – Mark (Catherine) Hinkson of North East, Michelle (John) Kerr of Waterford, and Andrea and Donna Hinkson at home on the family farm in Waterford; his 5 grandchildren, who were the light of his life – Emma, Laura, and John Ryan Kerr, and Elijah and Keilah Marshall, and a sweet new baby due in July 2022.  Ben was 1 of 5 siblings and is survived by 3 of them – Audrey (Victor) Powell of Union City,  Herb Hinkson of Fairview, and Beverly (Brent) Koehler of Gainesville, FL.

In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his brother Dave Hinkson.

Family and friends are invited to call at Van Matre Funeral Home of Waterford on Tuesday, December 14 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m.  A funeral service will be held at Union City Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, where Ben was a member, on Wednesday, December 15, at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Waterford Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Ben’s honor to Edinboro Conference Grounds (A Christian & Missionary Alliance Church Camp), or to WCTL 106.3 Christian Radio.
