Richard Oscar Boyd, age 76, of Union City, went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2022, surrounded by family in the comfort of his own home. He was born September 2, 1945, in Erie, the son of the late Merle John Boyd and Dorothy Eileen Eck Boyd-Ralph. He and his wife, Patricia M. Viera Boyd, shared 51 years of marriage. She survives him.

After graduating from General McLane High School, Richard attended Alliance College in Cambridge Springs and then worked in manufacturing. He retired from Erie Press Systems, where he had worked for 33 years.

Richard was a member of St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Union City, and a member of the Union City American Legion. He enjoyed farming, and often attended the weekly livestock sales both in Union City and in Meadville. An avid outdoorsman, Richard loved to hunt and fish, and, most of all, to spend time with his family.

In addition to his wife Patricia, he is survived by his four sons – Matthew (Margaret) of Woodburn, OR, Paul (Paula) of Bear Lake, Mark (Pauline) of Union City, and Andrew (Dusty) of Mill Village; three grandchildren whom he and his wife raised – Paige Boyd of Lexington, KY, Derick Swan of Cambridge Springs, and Audrey Swan of Union City; 12 additional grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Boyd of Erie; and two nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only daughter, Rebecca; his brother Gary Boyd; his stepfather, Fred Ralph; and several aunts and uncles.

Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Monday from 11 am until time of the funeral at 1pm. Officiating will be Deacon Tom McAraw. Burial will follow at Valley Cemetery in McKean Township.
