Pauline T. Ferrick Welz, 91, died Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital due to complications from COVID. She was born October 10, 1930 in Erie, a daughter of the late Stephen & Agnes Bagniszewski Ferrick.

Pauline attended Brown School in West Green Township and graduated from Academy High School in 1948. She worked at Arthur F. Schultz for two years and retired in 1994 from Teledyne Penn Union in Edinboro after 43 years as a Sales Correspondent.

In 1951, Pauline married the love of her life, Gustave Welz. Shortly after they bought a farm in Waterford Township where they lived together enjoying all the nature the farm had to offer. In the beginning, they grew thousands of Christmas trees which they then sold for many years in Erie.

She was very active in the Waterford Community and helped start the Waterford Lioness Club and several other Lioness Clubs in neighboring communities, and represented them at many of the local, state, national and International Lions Club Conventions. She was also a fixture at the Waterford Fair at the Lioness Club Food Trailer for decades. Pauline was very proud of the many awards she won at the Fair for the flowers from her many flower beds, and her canned goods from the garden they planted together throughout the years.

Pauline’s husband Gus opened Beaver Valley Gun Shop in 1991, which she continued to run after his passing. For 27 years she was very involved with the success of the Annual Waterford Lions Club Gun Raffle.

She enjoyed playing cards, Yahtzee, and Scrabble, golfing, building puzzles and spending time with friends and family including the beloved Ferrick Family Reunions.

Pauline is survived by one brother, Christopher Ferrick (Bernadette) of Waterford; two sisters, Frances Ferrick of Jamestown, NY and Mary Haley (Jim) of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Percy of Waterford and Frieda Boyer of Erie; special friend Russell Taccone; many nieces and nephews–she was a VERY SPECIAL Aunt to many of them. She was very grateful for her wonderful neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gus Welz, brother Stephen Ferrick, sisters Margaret Gnacinski and Audrey Thomas.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Prayer service will be held there on Saturday at 9:30am with the funeral mass following at 10:00am at All Saints Catholic Church of Waterford. Burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
