Janet May Wise, 78, of Cambridge Springs passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at UPMC Hamot. Jan was born on February 21, 1944, in Cambridge Springs daughter of the late Lester Newell and Dorothy Manross Newell. She graduated from Cambridge Springs High School with the class of 1962 and on April 11, 1964, she married David Earle Wise. For over forty-seven years, Jan was employed at Ken’s Pharmacy in Cambridge Springs, retiring as manager in 2009. She loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and horseback riding. She and Dave traveled extensively throughout the western and southwestern United States. She exceled at homemaking and was an expert cook and home canner. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cambridge Springs and was a committed Christian who loved her church family.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by brother, Jack Newell in 1993; brother, Robert Newell in 2007; and niece, Jennifer Newell in 2015.
Survivors include husband, Dave Wise of Cambridge Springs; sister, Viola Powell of Venango; sister-in-law, Jean Newell of Cambridge Springs; sister-in-law, Valerie Newell of Cambridge Springs; her goddaughter, Danielle Varner and her daughter, Shylee Varner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Tuesday, October 4, from 2-4 and 6 -8 pm and are invited to a funeral service on Wednesday, October 5, at 10 am to be held at First Baptist Church in Cambridge Springs. Interment will follow at Mitchell Cemetery.
