Marie Stecko Smith, 94, formerly of Neville Island, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022 following a long and well-lived life. Marie was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 2, 1928, to the late Joseph and Paraska Stecko. She graduated from Neville Island High School and worked for many years for Mayco/Nopco Oil and Chemical Company as the office Secretary.

Marie lived under a banner of kindness, love, goodness, gentleness, compassion, forgiveness and selflessness which blessed the lives of her family, friends and neighbors. Faith and prayer guided her through life. She was a member of Coraopolis First Assembly of God Church, the Neville Island Presbyterian Church, and a member of Red Hatters Society of Moon Crest Baptist Church. Marie was an avid reader, gardener, and provided many healthy homemade meals for her family and friends. She loved garage sales and a good dinner out at a restaurant.
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her former husband Richard Earl Smith; brother, Platon Stecko; Uncle John and Aunt Marie Sioa; and several beloved “Red Hatter girlfriends”.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Yatzor and husband Bruce of Edinboro, PA; her sister, Eileen Gore and her husband Bob on Moneta, VA along with their children and grandchildren; beloved cousin, Robert Sioa of Pleasant Gap, PA; and many friends in the Wesbury Retirement Community, Meadville, PA.
In accordance with Marie’s wishes, a private Christian funeral service, officiated by Pastor Sam Marchetta of Wesbury Retirement Community, will be held at Van Matre Funeral Home in Edinboro, PA with burial following in Edinboro Cemetery.
