On July 13, 2023, Evalyn Kay Carpenter passed away after a brief illness. She was 84 years old.

Evalyn was a spirited, friendly, kind, and upbeat person. She was also whip-smart, strong, unpretentious, and intensely curious about the world. Among her many gifts was an innate artistic talent; she was especially skilled at painting, and her work was always in demand from those who knew her.

Evalyn adored animals and could grow beautiful flowers of any kind. She would inevitably brighten the day of anyone she came across, whether she knew them or not. It was just her natural way of being. She loved people, and people certainly loved her in return.

Evalyn’s friends would count themselves fortunate to have a person like her in their lives. For her children, to be given life, raised, and steadily loved and guided by a woman like Evalyn was, and remains, a gift beyond words.

She was active for many years in the First Presbyterian Church of Waterford, and brought her enthusiasm and charm to many local civic activities.

Evalyn was predeceased by her husband, John. She is survived by her sister Julia, her daughter Christine, her son Allan, and her daughter-in-law, Niken.
