Richard “Dick” D. Reinwald, age 84, of Waterford, died Thursday, July 27, 2023, at his son’s residence where he was being lovingly cared for by his family after a lengthy illness. He was born January 20, 1939, in Erie, the son of the late Vernon and Eleanor (McCarthy) Reinwald.

Dick grew up in Erie and joined the US Navy. After serving, he returned home and married Irena Muir on February 15, 1958, and spent the next 64 years very happily married until her death in April of 2022. Dick and Irena were always together, and especially enjoyed taking long rides on country roads in their beloved 1970 red Chevy pickup truck. After they retired, they even drove cars together for New Motors. Also, he was a lifelong blood donor.

In his early years, Dick owned the Sunoco Gasoline Station at Pine Avenue and Old French Road in Erie. Then, for over 35 years, he used his skills as a mechanic and worked for the US Postal Service. Dick was also a former Captain for the Perry Highway Hose Company. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed hunting with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he thoroughly enjoyed his antique Farmall Tractors, with which he won numerous trophies and ribbons entering all the area Antique Tractor Pulls.

Dick is survived by his four children – Cherie Cole and her husband David of Wattsburg, Diana Griffin and her husband Douglas of Sebring, FL, Dick Reinwald and his wife Jennifer of Waterford, and Jerry Reinwald and his wife Nancy of Cambridge Springs; a brother, Jack Reinwald of Harborcreek; a sister, Donna Wright of Greenfield Township; a sister-in-law Lani Reinwald of Erie; 15 grandsons and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter Renee Jenks; a grandson Kevin Griffin; a great-granddaughter Gabrielle Griffin; his brother Robert Reinwald; his brother Jim Reinwald and his wife Claudetta; and a sister Kathleen Czulewicz and her husband Frank.

Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Monday, July 31, from 4-8 pm, and the funeral service on Tuesday at 11:00 am. Committal service and burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
