Darla Spaid, 53, of Cambridge Springs passed away on October 6, 2023, at her residence following a courageous two-year battle with ovarian cancer. Darla was born on September 13, 1970, in Meadville, the daughter of Richard and Sally Anderson. She married Scott Spaid on March 20, 1999. Darla was a 1989 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School and a 1993 graduate of Slippery Rock University. In 1996 she began her career with the Department of Corrections, SCI-Cambridge Springs as their switchboard operator and worked her way to the head of purchasing. She was with SCI-CBS for thirteen years before moving on to Edinboro University where she continued her career in purchasing as the Assistant Director before being promoted to the Director of Purchasing in 2011. Due to consolidation in 2021, she became employed by the PA State System of Higher Education as the Lead Purchaser for Materials buying goods for multiple PA state universities.

Darla was an active member of the First Church of God, where she served as church treasure for seventeen years. She enjoyed singing with the praise and worship team and serving in other areas as well. Darla will be best remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor, wanting to bring joy to others through laughter. She was also very competitive and loved playing sports and games with family and friends. She loved traveling and was fortunate to see several different states, her favorite being Washington State. She also enjoyed the outdoors whether it be hiking or biking. She fell in love with running where she would often rise before the sun to get her run in for the day. Watching the sun rise was very peaceful and was her one-on-one time with God and nature. She was very proud of her accomplishment of completing the Pittsburgh marathon in 2015 at the age of 44. Darla also found happiness in early morning walks with her beloved dog, JD, who passed away in 2022.

Darla dearly loved her family and often said her greatest accomplishment was raising three wonderful children. She is very proud of the young adults they have all become.

She is survived by her husband, Scott Spaid of Cambridge Springs; daughter, Taryn Barnes and her husband, Joe of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter Sierra Spaid at home; and son Hunter Spaid, at home. She is further survived by her mom, Sally Anderson, of Cambridge Springs; her sister, Debra Smith of Cambridge Springs; and her four brothers, Doug Anderson (wife, Christine) of Cranesville; David Anderson of Cambridge Springs; Dean Anderson (wife, Tracy) of Goldsboro, NC; Dennis Anderson (fiancé, Lisa Merritt) of Springboro; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Anderson.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Saint Vincent Cancer Center and Ascera Care of Waterford for the care they provided. Darla was in awe of all the cards, gifts, and flowers received from family, friends and even strangers. Thank you to everyone who had her in their thoughts and prayers.
