John “Jack” Patrick Merry, age 70, of Waterford, passed away on the morning of November 22, 2023 after a lengthy health struggle.

Jack was born May 10, 1953 to the late Charles and Frances (Pavolko) Merry. He was raised in Waterford with his five brothers and sisters- Charlene (David) Stull of Waterford, Christopher (Stephanie) Merry of Buffalo, Melinda (David) McCall of Painesville, OH, Mark (Mary Ellen) Merry of North Carolina, and Thomas (Amy) Merry of Galena, OH.

He married the love of his life, Ann (Johnson) Merry, and spent 49 amazing years together. His most cherished accomplishments were his children- Sean (Nadine) Merry, Seth (Monica) Merry, Amy (Travis) Rand; and, of course, his grandchildren- Sydney and Jack Merry, Kaitlyn and Aubri Ames, and Eva Rand.

Jack enjoyed skiing, fishing, boating, and general mischief-making. As his health and mobility declined, he enjoyed doing small projects with his John Deere tractor. He was always willing to give the shirt off his own back, and was able to trust and see the goodness in just about anyone.

He began working at age 12 with his father, and eventually started his own business that he operated for decades. Jack was a strong believer in community and volunteering. He volunteered with the Mill Village Fire Company for 15 years, and was one of the first EMT’s in Erie County. He also served as LeBoeuf Township Supervisor. In 1971, he began doing the electric for the Waterford Community Fair, going on to join the Fair Board and eventually becoming a Director Emeritus.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Eric Charles Merry in 1976.

Friends are invited to call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Sunday, Nov 26th from 2-5 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Catholic Church on Monday at 10:00 am followed by burial at Waterford Cemetery West.
