Eugene Frank Soltesz Sr., age 90, of Edinboro, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Edinboro Manor where he resided for a brief time. During his time of failing health, he was loved and well-cared for by his wife Marion and five children.

Gene was born in Edinboro on July 19, 1933 to the late Bertrand and Mary Petrice Soltesz. As a young man, age 16 and a school student, he started working for Hayes Manufacturing and ended up working there for over 35 years. He was drafted at age 19 and served in the US Army. Before retiring in 1998, Gene worked in the maintenance departments at Alliance College and the State Correctional Institution, both in Cambridge Springs.

Known as a hard worker, Gene farmed for years planting cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli, and seemed to always be tinkering on a tractor or fixing broken equipment. Even without enough hours in a day, he still made time to socialize with family and friends, and enjoy hunting and fishing. Gene’s wife Marion cherishes the several years they spent winters in Florida.

Family members include his wife, Marion G. Yaple Soltesz; their five children- Eugene F. Soltesz Jr. and wife Leslie, Susan Skalko and partner Robert Rimpa, Lori Krull and husband Ken Nelson, Karen LeSuer and husband Kevin, and Tim Soltesz and wife Crystal; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his four siblings- Albert and William Soltesz, Pearl Harned and Eleanor Yatzor.
