John “Jack” Edwards, age 88, of Waterford, was born November 9, 1935, to Anna and Dwayne Edwards. He was preceded in death a little over a year ago by his loving wife Jean Marie Edwards. He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Betty Daniels, Grace Leuchen and Kate McCracken, and by three brothers: Bill Edwards, Jim Edwards and Roger Edwards. He will be missed by his surviving siblings: Faye Jarmolowicz (Cass), Dotty Turner (Ralph) and Jerry Edwards (Donna).

Jack was also preceded in death by his first wife Betty Edwards (Hull). They had three children: “Sparkie” Edwards (Pam), Doug Edwards (Nona) and Tammy Frontera (Chip); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jack was married to Jean Marie Edwards for 40 years and helped raise her children: Carol Edwards (Pat), Anne Hull, Brenda VanElls (Joe), Balinda Wright (Joe, Phil), Malinda Leech (John) and Billy Judware (Joy).

When John Edwards was born, he was 13 pounds, blue and not breathing. Thinking he was not alive, they put him in a box and placed him outside. His grandma saw him flinch and she brought him in by the fire, gave him a little whisky and he started to breathe.

At age 14, his father falsified Jack’s military application so he could join the Army. He was sent to the Korean War, where he drove the truck for the North Korean and South Korean prisoner exchange. After returning home, he continued to drive truck for a living until the age of 72, when he retired. He worked for LeBoeuf Transit, Armelini and Hardinger Trucking.

John Edwards died at home on Saturday, December 30, 2023 surrounded by his loving daughter Anne Hull (Colonel Clink), his loving daughter Balinda Wright, and his loving granddaughter BettyLou Shaw (Tipper). He was hugged and had his hands held until the end, when he opened his eyes and gave his last breath. He will be missed by his numerous children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Wednesday, January 3rd from 11:00 am until time of the funeral at 12:00 noon. Pastor Daniel Brooker will officiate. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
