Rose Plementosh Smith, 87, of Cambridge Springs passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, where she had resided since June 2021. Rose was born on January 21, 1936, in Meadville PA, daughter of the late Matt and Anna Bracika Plementosh. A 1953 graduate of Saegertown High School, she married Mark R. Smith on May 1, 1954.  They moved to Cambridge Springs that year and enjoyed being part of the town’s history. Mark proceeded her in death on January 17, 2008. Rose was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and was active in a variety of careers including musician, upholsterer, caterer, home renovator, and museum curator. She had worked at the historic Riverside Inn restoring rooms, wallpapering and painting. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and yard work.  She and her husband, Mark, were instrumental in the founding of the Cambridge Springs Historical Museum. Rose loved organizing information and researching history and genealogy and traveled to Croatia to research her own family genealogy. Rose excelled at organizing large projects for the town, the museum, her church, and service club, Gam Sac Mah. In 1995, she was honored as the Grange citizen of the year and in 2021, received the Cambridge Springs Outstanding Citizenship award. Rose was athletic and participated in bowling, softball, and golf and enjoyed watching sports on television year-round.

     In addition to her husband Mark Smith, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Ann Zinchiak and her brother Michael Plementosh.

     Survivors include her son Steven Smith and his wife Cynthia of Leominster, MA; her daughter Sharon Smith Crisman of Reston, VA; her daughter Susan Burton and her husband John of Erie; her five grandchildren Adam Crisman (Jennifer), Jordan Smith, Jeffry Smith, Catharyn Burton and Brianne Burton; her sister Helen Archacki; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.     

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, Cambridge Springs on Saturday, December 9, from 12 until 1 pm. A mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev Fr. Mark Nowak follows at 1 pm at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Rose will be laid to rest next to her husband Mark Smith in the Cambridge Upper Cemetery.
