Geraldine Conklin Christiansen Jassak passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 10, 2016. “Mother Ger” was born in Montpelier, Vermont on July 28, 1931 and raised by the Conklin family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Christiansen; her son, Bruce Christiansen, and her parents and step brothers. She is survived by her husband of 42 years – Edwin Jassak of McKean; sons – Joseph Jassak (Lisa) of Winnette, Montana and Charles Christiansen (Joanne) of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; daughter – Karen Christiansen Cooper (Dick) of Waterford; step-daughters -Jean Giese (Bill) of Erie, Debbie Croff of New York, Judy Burks of New York; step-son – David Jassak (Patty) of McKean; and daughter-in-law – Linda Christiansen of Waterford; as well as 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
A New Englander through and through, Mother Ger never hesitated to express her opinion on any subject, and, like it or not, you knew exactly where you stood with her. Upon the death of her first husband, she raised three small children by herself for 17 years and never managed to acquire a driver’s license. She dismissed this as a minor detail, claiming if she was ever pulled over she would simply cry herself out of a ticket. She loved gladiolas and red raspberries, enjoying both from her garden. At one time she was quite accomplished at ceramics and many members of the family have pieces she has made to remember her with. She was a loving, no-nonsense lady who will be missed by her family and friends.
