Dorothy (Dottie) L. Rodgers, age 71, passed away at her residence in Cambridge Springs following a one year’s illness on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. She had lived in Cambridge Springs for the past 20 years. Dottie was born on December 5, 1945 in Titusville, PA, a daughter of the late Glenn Armstrong and Mary Ellen Kenison Armstrong. First married to John P. Lang, she subsequently married Charles Edward Rodgers on July 6, 2012 who survives.
????? A graduate of Townville High School, Dottie became a dietician and was employed at Maplewood High School and Cussewago School for more than 10 years. Later she was employed as a nurse’s aide at Wesbury United Methodist Community and at Bethesda Home in Meadville. Throughout those years, Dottie also worked as a bar tender at various taverns located in the Crawford County area.
Dottie was a very social person making many lasting friendships easily. She enjoyed flower gardening and was an auxiliary member of VFW Post 169 of Venango and American Legion Post #381 of Cambridge Springs.
Surviving Dottie in addition to her husband, Charles, are two sons – Glenn G. Armstrong and his wife, Maggie of Guys Mills and Joseph L. Armstrong and his wife, Renee of South Carolina; a stepson – Jerry Rodgers and his wife, Sharon of Brownsville, PA; six grandchildren – Jessie Merchant, Gregory Armstrong (Jenn) Christopher Armstrong, Adam Armstrong, Zachary Armstrong (Melody), and Melody Schwantes and her partner (Alan). Dottie is also survived by three great grandchildren; two brothers – Wayne Armstrong (Kathy) of Titusville and Rex Armstrong (Karen) of Arizona; a sister-in-law: Linda Rogers of Cambridge Springs and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Monday, July 24th? from 2-4 and 6-8 with a prayer service beginning at 8:00 p.m. Private burial will take place in Mitchell Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Sterling of Hydetown Baptist Church will officiate.
