Margretta Abercrombie, age 89, of Waterford, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 7, 2018, in Valencia, PA. She was born in Rimersburg, PA on May 21, 1928.
Margretta, a loving mother and grandmother, lived most of her life in Waterford and owned Abercrombie’s General Store in Mill Village, PA for many years. She was known for her laughter, and for her sweet and caring ways. Margretta loved, and was very caring of, children and people – and was much loved in return. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Margretta was preceded in death by her husband George T. Abercrombie; a daughter Penny Green; two sons-in-law, Dennis Green and Albert Pett; three sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by five children, Barbara Pett of Aiken, SC, Linda Cline and her husband Jere of Cary, NC, John Abercrombie and his wife Jennifer of Mentor, OH, George Abercrombie and wife Kathy of Mill Village, PA, Sheila Strawser Jones and her husband Eric of Gibsonia, PA; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Douglas Abercrombie of Aiken, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford, PA on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Donaldson officiating. Burial will be in Mill Village Cemetery.
