Kenneth Leroy Humes Sr., age 76, resident of Edinboro and formerly of Waterford, passed away after a long illness surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Born in Meadville, PA on July 26, 1941, he was a son of the late Ray and Ruth Kelley Humes.
Ken married Doris Ester on September 12, 1964, and together they were blessed with four children: Kenneth (Lisa) of Jasper, IN, Kevin (Robin) of Waterford, Keith (Stephanie) of Edinboro, and Dorene (Steven) of Waterford.
Ken was a hard worker and for many years worked as a pour-off at local foundries- Bucyrus Erie, Urick Foundry, and Keystone Foundry. Raising a large family, Ken would often work double shifts to make ends meet. After retiring from Keystone Foundry, he loved working with his brother at the farm, and he enjoyed cutting firewood, mowing, and lending a hand at Thomas Mobile Home Park in Waterford. He had many friends there and was appreciated.
Ken inherited that “Humes sense of humor” and was loved by his wife, children, and grandchildren. In fact, all children loved him. He had a charisma to which both children and animals were drawn.
For pleasure, Ken enjoyed camping and fishing, and he was quite active at Draketown Christian Church, helping with activities and dinners (washing dishes).
Other family members include four siblings: Ruth Weigle of North East, Pearl Peters of Cambridge Springs, Victor Humes of Edinboro, and Charles Humes of Cambridge Springs; four grandchildren: Keith (Jenna), Kenneth III, Shelby, and Steven; six great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Robert Harrison, and 10 siblings: Norma Peters, Genevieve Scarboro, Ethel Sanders, Pauline Pulling, Doris Haines, Oscar Humes, Ray Humes, Delroy Humes, Robert Humes, and Gary Humes.
Visiting hours will be at Draketown Christian Church, 12460 Draketown Road, Edinboro on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.
