Dixie Lee Dunda, age 80, passed away at her home in Waterford on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Born and raised in Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Lee Hawley and Alice Hodges and was born on April 27, 1941.
Dixie married Robert Michael Dunda in 1976, and together they raised their family and lived most of their years in Summit Township and Erie. She loved life, and even in her last years when dealing with failing health, she portrayed a positive attitude that will never be forgotten by those close to her. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and birds, and most of all, she cherished her family and friends. In addition to being a homemaker, Dixie worked years ago as a dietician at Twinbrook Nursing Facility, and as a cook at Martucci’s Restaurant.
Family members include her five children: Christine Wisniewski (Roy) of Centerville, Jeff Fenno (Eileen) of Erie, Brenda Ertman (Arthur) of Conneautville, Brian Dunda (Pauline) of Conneautville, and Joyce Bailey (John) of Waterford; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sister, Vickie.
Dixie was preceded in death by her husband Robert Michael Dunda on September 26, 2010; a sister, Joyce Marie Hart; a niece, Debbie Hart; and a cousin, Sally Majerik.
Friends are invited to call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Thursday, June 24th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be there Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. with burial and committal service following at Waterford Cemetery. Pastor Gary Darnell of Harmony Baptist Church in Waterford will officiate.
