Harry “Butch” Chapman, lifelong Greene Township-Waterford farmer, passed away peacefully at UPMC Hamot on Thursday, August 19, 2021. He was born the 9th of 14 children on November 15, 1939 in Waterford Township to the late Ray Chapman and Mary Ruth Barton Chapman. He married Donna M. Morgan nearly 62 years ago on September 19th, and together they lived on the same farm on West Greene Road for all those 62 years.
Butch was well known for the farm that he maintained all his working years. Raising and selling beef cattle, hogs, and turkeys; growing hay, grain, cabbage, corn, and potatoes; and producing maple syrup–all done with excellence which meant a full life on the farm! He also dehorned cattle during the winter months, sold farm equipment, and provided ditching and trenching services. No matter what job needed done, he was always there to lend a hand.
When he wasn’t hard at work, Butch enjoyed tractor pulling, snowmobile riding, hunting, and, of course, bowling in the Brothers Bowling Tournament and the Monday night league at LeBoeuf Lanes for over 20 years. He was a “Ford” man who loved to tell stories and jokes, and generous at heart, Butch knew someone wherever he went or he ended up making a new friend.
Butch loved his family very much and will be sorely missed by his loving wife, Donna, and their three children- Michael Chapman, Sandy Carr (Stuart), and Melissa Kingen (Tim); grandchildren- Ashley (Randy), Craig (Amy), Nathan (Cara), Cortney (Mikey), Morgan, and Luke; and great-grandchildren Wyatt and Waylon. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters- Ray Chapman Jr., Myrtle Skiba, Dale Chapman (Barbara), Lois Smith (Harvey), and Kathleen “Kazzy” Fox; sisters-in-law Eileen Chapman and Barbara Heim; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
The Chapman siblings that predeceased Butch include Julia Carniewski, Florence Kennerknecht, Russell “Tuffy” Chapman, Marjorie Lenart, Alice Polohonki, Warren Chapman, Mary Ann Baker, and John Chapman.
