James Robert (JD) Donnell, 76, of Waterford, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Independence Court in Erie, PA. JD was born in Erie on September 29, 1944, the son of James H. “Pappy” and Elizabeth “Bette” Williamson Donnell.
JD graduated in 1962 from Cambridge Springs Joint High School. During his school years he was awarded the Crawford County Farmer Degree and the Keystone Farmer Degree from the Future Farmers of America. He also played in the band while at Cambridge Springs and later played drums with Red and the Cannonballs.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and served at various bases including Hawaii and Fort Knox, KY. JD was an Electrical Accounting Machine Repairman and was Honorably Discharged in 1968.
JD served 40 years as an active member of the Stancliff Hose Company in various positions and became an Honorary Active Lifetime Member in 1995. He was also a Constable for Waterford Township for more than twenty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Bethany (2019) and sister Jan Donnell Morrison (2015). JD is survived by his sister, Martha Flynn of Maryland; brother, William (Kathy) Donnell of Waterford; brother-in-law, David Morrison, also of Waterford; as well as several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Calling hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Thursday, August 5th from 3-7 p.m. with a funeral service there Friday, August 6th at 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately following at Waterford Cemetery.
