Dalton Lee Hammett, Jr, 53, of Saegertown passed away at his home surrounded by his family on June 6, 2022, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Dalton was born on November 10, 1968, the son of Dalton Lee Hammett, Sr and Shirley Ann Hammett. After graduating from Northwestern High School with the class of 1987, Dalton entered the US Army, serving for four years until 1991. He worked as an engineer for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for over twenty-five years. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, singing karaoke and riding his ATV. He was a member of the Venango VFW Post 169 and the Saegertown American Legion Post 205. He was an avid Christmas enthusiast who enjoyed decorating and celebrating with his family.

Family members include parents, Dalton and Shirley Hammett; wife, Vicki; son, Cody and his fiancé, Amy; daughter, Tiffany; grandsons, Coltin and “CJ”; brothers, Paul and Duane; and sisters, Lisa and Kimberly.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, Cambridge Springs on Friday, June 10 from 1-3 pm with military honors to be presented at 3.
My condolences to the Hammett family. I used to see Dalton rail side as a signal maintainer between Buffalo and Cleveland. A great loss to the people that knew him and Norfolk Southern. Farewell my friend.

A brother railroader and friend that my family and I spent time with his family riding atv’s, cookouts and jusy enjoying each others company when we were together which was quite often before I moved to the Cleveland area to work as an engineer. My wife and I visited with him at the hospital not to long ago. We are devastated.
