Edward Leo Maloney II, age 75, of Waterford, died peacefully in the home he built, on November 5, 2022. He was born on March 25, 1947, in Erie, PA, the son of Edward L. and Betty May (Forest) Maloney.

Ed graduated from Tech Memorial High School, class of 1965. Following graduation, he worked at GTE/Verizon for nearly 40 years. He was affectionately known as “Ed the Phone Man” in the community. He married Kathleen Silverthorn in 1968, and they celebrated 54 years of marriage in June.
Ed was an avid motorcycle rider. In his lifetime, he had easily ridden half a million miles. He traveled to Sturgis, South Dakota three times. He and his wife, Kathy, rode from coast to coast putting 8,000 miles on his bike in one month.
Ed liked to be president. His presidencies included: President of ABATE of Erie County, Waterford Rec Association, and The Bison Wrestling Club. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean with their good friends. Ed’s most recent venture was restoring his 1949 Ford panel truck. With the help of many friends and family, he completed the truck in August and was able to pridefully cruise around town.
Ed’s biggest love was his family. He spent countless hours with his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. He tried his best to attend every sporting event, dance show, birthday party, and school function that his children and grandchildren had. He was larger than life, and his laugh could fill a whole room. He was a proud member of Saint Boniface Church where he grew in his faith and understanding of the goodness of God. He happily gave his time serving others in the church community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Colleen and nephew Jared. Surviving in addition to his wife, Kathy (Silverthorn) Maloney, is his son, Josh Maloney and his wife, Jen, of Millcreek; daughter, Rebecca Banta, of Waterford; son, Israel Maloney and his wife, Nancy, of Waterford; and daughter, Tara Mitchell and her husband Charlie, of Harborcreek; seven grandchildren, Anna Mitchell, Nolan Maloney, Elijah Mitchell, Maya Banta, Laurel Banta, Asher Maloney, Nora Maloney; one brother, Mark Maloney and his wife, Linda, of Waterford; and many nieces and nephews.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Ed. I knew him since the ’80’s, always had a good time and laughed til my cheeks hurt. He was a wonderful man. He will be missed by many. 😢
That breaks my heart. Ed was such a delight, a wonderful person, and a heck of a good President of ABATE. So many good times…
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen
May the peace of the wilderness help you heal. I will miss him!
Ed was a good man and friend!
Dear Kathy and family, we are so deeply sorry to hear of your loss. Ed was such a sweet and kind man. He was so easy to talk to whenever we had the privilege to see him. We loved listening to his stories of your travels. Please know we are keeping you all in our prayers. With love,

Kathy and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Sending prayers for all of you! Thanks to Kathy and Ed for hosting many family reunions! Those were the days❤️
Love to all of you
My love and prayers are with you all.
Ed, (“Buddy” to me) was my playmate, cousin, and partner in general mischief. Our fathers were brothers, but our bond was deeper than blood, forged into a true friendship and mutual respect. To me, he was larger than life. He overcame early hardships and embraced life with gusto. He loved BIG.
My condolences to Kathy. He may have hung the moon but you and the kids were the stars.
Rest In Peace, my friend.
