On September 6, 2023, the earthly world lost a light, but Heaven gained an angel with the passing of Jessica Elizabeth Burns of Woods Cross, Utah. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on June 1, 2006, to Timothy Burns and Melissa (Gabriel) Burns, Jessica was only 17 years old, but touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a junior at Woods Cross High School and had worked at Lagoon Amusement Park.

She loved to make people smile and her smile would light up a room. Jessica loved outdoor activities and was always on the move, whether she was riding a dirt bike, side-by-side, longboard, bicycle, four-wheeler, snowboard, or snowmobile. She loved spending time with family and friends, and she loved traveling. In fact, she had visited 36 states and Canada.

Jessica was always willing to lend a helping hand whether that meant shingling a roof on her birthday, pouring a concrete pad, or helping at girls’ camp, she was always ready to step in. She embodies the Burns Scottish motto: Ever Ready.

In addition to her parents, Jessica is survived by her sisters Ashley and Cassidy; her grandparents: Donald and Elizabeth (Mattis) Gabriel of Meadville, PA; her aunts and uncles: James and Lisa (Burns) Buzzanco, of Union City, PA, Jeffery Burns, of Waterford, PA, Robert and Melissa (Burns) Oberlander of Waterford, PA, Donald Gabriel of Venango, PA, Charles and Allison (Gabriel) Lukach, Jr. of Guys Mills, PA; and many cousins.

Jessica is preceded in death by her grandparents: Chester and Betty (Cashore) Burns of Waterford, PA, and the two special great-grandmothers whom she had known and missed very much, Mae (Hadfield) Miller and Mary (Kerkanich) Mattis, both of Kane, PA.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford, PA on Friday, September 15th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and may attend funeral services there Saturday at 11:00 am.
