Hazel Moses, age 85, lifelong resident of McLane, died Monday, March 11, 2024 at UPMC Hamot. A daughter of Leo H. and Helen Nesbitt Tallman, she was born December 22, 1938.

Growing up, Hazel could always be found out in the barn with her dad or playing ball with the neighborhood boys. She was a tomboy at heart and enjoyed life to the fullest, playing in various sports leagues including a women’s softball league. The sports channel was always on at Hazel’s house, and she especially enjoyed watching football. She spent her life where she was born and raised, surrounded by family and friends who loved her.

In addition to raising her own two boys, Hazel made a positive and lasting impact on a multitude of local children driving bus for the General McLane School District for 25 years. She really loved the kids, and was no pushover where discipline was needed. She also worked for Niagara Plastics Company and for Woods Dairy, and she sold insurance for American General. Hazel was a lifelong member of McLane Church.

Hazel married Fay “Junior” Moses on March 16, 1981. They enjoyed a happy life together until his death in 2008. They were members of McKean Ushers Club.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her brother Clarence H. Tallman.

She is survived by her two sons – James Caldwell of TN, and Jerry Caldwell of Edinboro; two grandsons – Shawn and Jeremy Caldwell; her sister Phyllis LeSuer and her husband Dentcsil; her sister-in-law Maggie Tallman; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, Edinboro, on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Brian Kelly of McLane Church officiating. Committal service and burial will follow at Valley Cemetery, McKean.
