Chaffee, Donald March 25, 1930 - July 8, 2024

Date of Funeral

July 12, 2024

Donald D. Chaffee, 94, of Union City, went to be with the Lord in the early hours of July 8th, 2024, at the Edinboro Manor. Donald was born to Leon and Orah Doolittle Chaffee on March 25th, 1930, in Hatch Hollow, where he resided his entire life. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ann; daughter Kathy Chaffee and her son Robin Zuckerman; brother, Lawrence Chaffee; sisters Evelynn Davids and Gertrude Stuntz. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and former member of the Harmony Baptist Church. As a God loving man, Don lived humbly with grace and demonstrated his Christian values.

His source of joy was being with family and friends and the fellowship that accompanied a good meal. He enjoyed the daily contact with loving friends, family, and neighbors. Time spent with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was the highlight of his life. Longtime friends cherish memories spent with Don in the woods of Hatch Hollow, whether chatting over bowls of deer season chili or riding his four-wheeler on the local trails.

Surviving family members include his son, Dale Chaffee (Karen), daughter Becky Cline (David); five grandchildren: Zachary Cline (Tara), Julia Buchanan (Jared), Hunter Chaffee, Levi Chaffee, and Kimberly Danna; three great-grandchildren: Chase, Max and Mila Cline.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Friday morning from 11:00 am until time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Pastor Gary Darnell of Harmony Baptist Church will officiate. Committal service and burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Hatch Hollow.

The family would like to make recognition of the special relationship Don shared with his niece, Cindy Miller, and friend Caroline Kettering, both of whom brought him much joy in his elder years.

We are eternally grateful for the care and dignity extended by the entire staff of the VA Caregivers, the Edinboro Manor, and the staff of Hamot Hospital. Memorials can be made to the Harmony Baptist Church, Waterford, PA.
