Hunt, Rodney R. November 3, 1951 - January 13, 2026

Rodney R. Hunt, 74, passed away at his home in Summit Township on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, with family at his side.

He was born November 3, 1951, in Union City, one of six children. He grew up in Waterford in the 1960s. At age 12, Rodney first met his future wife, Kathy Geiger. The two went on to be homecoming king and queen at Fort LeBoeuf High School before graduating and marrying in 1970. They raised three children in Erie’s west side. Rodney often proudly told stories of his lifelong friendship with Kathy.

Rodney had a 48-year career in banking, serving multiple roles at First National Bank and PNC. In his free time, one of his favorite things to do was simply be in his beautiful backyard, which he and Kathy worked so hard to maintain.

In family life, he is remembered as an easygoing, often goofy dad who would dance like Talking Heads music videos, rent Monty Python movies and browse record shops for 1980s pop stars. He was a cheering section for choir concerts, a gifted design consultant for pinewood derbies and the vital transportation service for sports practices, paper routes and all things in between. As a grandfather, he hosted what he called “happy hours” for the kids, often featuring disco lights, music, snacks and toy car racing.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Kathy, as well as their three children, Jennifer, David and Daniel, along with a son-in-law, John Roden, a daughter-in-law, Tara Hunt, and three grandchildren, Emerson, Upton and Efron. Rodney also is survived by his sisters, Melody, June, Linda and Suzan, and his brother, Benny.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Betty (Wilcox) Hunt.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, Waterford, on Sunday, January 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held there Monday, January 19, at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in McKean. The Rev. Ben Daghir will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Erie.
