Steinhoff, R. Lynn October 19, 1938 - August 7, 2026

R. Lynn Steinhoff, 87, of Slippery Rock, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital. Lynn was born in Cambridge Springs, PA, on October 19, 1938, to Thomas Samuel Steinhoff and Dessie Meredith Chapin Steinhoff. After graduating from high school, he climbed into his ‘53 Mercury, and drove all the way to Miami, Florida. He later made his way to the Tampa Bay area, where he became a Volkswagen mechanic and then sold vacuum cleaners door-to-door before transitioning into the life insurance business. Lynn enjoyed a successful career with Sun Life and was eventually promoted to District Manager. In 1969, this opportunity led Lynn and his family from Tampa to Fairfax, Virginia. In 2006, after many years of serving others in the insurance industry, Lynn retired from his own insurance agency, Term Life Administrators, in Fairfax. Throughout his career as an insurance broker, he earned the respect and trust of a large clientele—a remarkable accomplishment for a man whose working life began as a bellhop at the Riverside Inn in Cambridge Springs.

From his earliest days in Virginia, Lynn was devoted to his family. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America and Little League baseball and later shared his business expertise by serving as chairman of the Chantilly High School Band Boosters. He rarely missed his children’s concerts, games, or other activities, always taking great pride in their accomplishments. Lynn also loved boating and fishing and cherished the time spent outdoors with family and friends.

Lynn married the former Charlotte Ann Wood on December 2, 1990. Together, they built a life filled with family, love, and many treasured memories.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Jane Steinhoff Thomas.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Charlotte Steinhoff, of Slippery Rock; his son, Dr. Lew Steinhoff (Karen), of Fresno, CA; his son, Jeff Steinhoff (Patti) of Bristow, VA; and his daughter, Cindy Steinhoff Mitchell (Keith) of Strasburg, VA. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Lewis Steinhoff Jr. (Ali) of Rohrersville, MD; Kaitlyn Tolley (Alex) of Strasburg, VA; Shelby Mitchell, of Strasburg, VA; and Sam Steinhoff, of Fresno, CA. Lynn was especially blessed to know and love his two great-grandchildren, Jenna, age 4½, and Briar, age 3 months, both of Strasburg, VA.
