Date of Funeral

March 23, 2024

Reverend Herbert Roy Strobel, age 95, of Erie, died at the Residence at Presque Isle Bay on Friday, March 15, 2024. He was born in Batavia, NY, to the late Ralph and Jane (Peterson) Strobel. He graduated college with a bachelor’s degree in Theology in 1956 and a master’s degree in Christian Education in 1958 from the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA.

Herb dedicated 35 years to Baptist ministry. He served six years as a pastor at First Baptist Church in Nanty Glo, PA. He then served almost thirty years as the pastor at Delaware Avenue Baptist Church in Erie where he also enjoyed directing the choir and teaching Sunday School.

He is survived by his three children, Roy Strobel and wife LuAnn (Caldwell) of Edinboro, John Strobel and wife Valerie (Goh) of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Carol Kelly and husband Kirk of Edinboro; five grandsons, Luke (Megan), Ethan (Emily), Drew (Lauren), and Clay Strobel and Caleb Kelly; one granddaughter, Joy Strobel; and three great-grandchildren, Talan, Evelynn and Wellington Strobel. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Margery Marie Strobel, and his two brothers, Albert (Al) and Ralph (Bill).

His hobbies and interests included family, camping and gardening. Because Herb was a big kid at heart, he connected well with young people and enjoyed leading Boy Scouts and church youth activities for many years. He also loved spending time on the Peninsula.

Visiting hours and funeral services will be held at McLane Church, 12511 Edinboro Road, Edinboro on Saturday, March 23rd from 10:00 am until time of the funeral at 1:00 pm. Rev. Brian Kelly will officiate. Committal service and burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie.
