Wasiela, Thomas R. May 2, 1938 - June 7, 2024

Date of Funeral

June 14, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband and father, Thomas Randall Wasiela, who left us on June 7, 2024 at the age of 86 after a lengthy battle with chronic lung disease. Tom was the type of guy who would tell you like it is, however, had a heart full of love and would do anything for friends and family in need.

He was born in Erie, PA on May 2, 1938. He attended Academy High School, but left during his senior year to join the Air Force and spent four years in Florida. Upon returning to Erie, he worked for Kaiser Aluminum, Operating Engineers Local Union 66, Oberlander Drilling Co., and served a term as Summit Township Supervisor. He enjoyed motorcycles, rearranging mother nature’s work with large machines, and flying airplanes with his cousin and several friends. Later in life, he could be found working in his greenhouse, riding his side by side around the neighborhood, and transporting the local Amish families. He also enjoyed feeding the fish at the pond and sitting around a fire at night.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Marjorie L. (Beck) Wasiela; two sons, Thomas P. Wasiela (Tina), and Timothy S. Wasiela (Rae Ann); and three daughters, Paula S. Duda (Greg), Lynette I. Wasiela (Jeremy Young), and Rebecca A. Butler (Aaron). He is further survived by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four siblings: Jim Wasiela, Jean Rhoades, Joan Wurst, and Kathy Kuykendall, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph E. Wasiela and Lillian R. (Oberlander) Wasiela, a brother Daniel J. Wasiela, a grandson Timothy John Wasiela, and a granddaughter Tamera L. Wasiela.

Thomas will be remembered as being a jack of all trades, and a determined, hard working man who loved his family dearly. He survived lung cancer in his late 60’s, to go on to build a hanger, a house, and an airstrip on the new family farm where he enjoyed flying his planes.

Friends and loved ones are invited to call on family this Friday, June 14, 2024 from 4 to 7 pm at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford, PA. A funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Gary Darnell officiating.
