Gone far too soon
David Edward Zaffino, 63, of Waterford, PA, passed away September 23, 2026. Born June 18, 1963, to Rose Wienczkowski Zaffino and the late Samuel Zaffino of Erie, he recently celebrated 42 years with his wife, Corinne McCracken Zaffino.
In addition to his wife and his mother, David is survived by his children, Kyle, Stephen (Kat), Geoffrey, and Carolyn; his siblings, Sam (Liz), Beth Cacchione (Phil), and Jerry (Michele); and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by his siblings, Dennis Zaffino and Robin Silvis, his parents-in-law William and Mary McCracken, and his beloved dog, Gizmo.
Dave loved people – everyone he met was his friend. He celebrated everything, throwing surprise birthday parties for his wife, hugging all his children’s friends at their various graduations, and dancing the night away at Stephen and Kat’s wedding. He also loved baseball all his life – he was the SeaWolves’ most enthusiastic fan, a season ticket holder and friend to everyone at Jerry Uht Park, and he could never wait to eat a sundae out of a souvenir batting helmet.
Friends and family may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Monday, September 28th from 3-8pm and on Tuesday, September 29th from 1:00 until the funeral service begins at 2:00pm.

September 25, 2026 at 1:45 pmCan’t count the number of times we stopped on the corner to chat with Dave while Gizmo and Rosey checked each other out. Also they would stop at our house anytime we were out while they were walking by. Truly a friend to anyone he met. We will miss them both. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

September 27, 2026 at 11:33 amI can’t tell you how stunned and deeply saddened I am to learn of Dave’s passing. I am so sorry for your loss. I will greatly miss the little conversations Dave and I shared at the ballpark. He was a great guy (and still is, just in another realm). God’s blessing to you all. In His time we are all only seconds away from each other.
