Evans, Eugene Henry December 31, 2021

Eugene Henry Evans, age 89 of Waterford, died Friday, December 31, 2021 at the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center. He was born in Erie, PA on September 18, 1932, the son of the late Frank, Sr. and Katharyn Koehler Evans.

Gene was a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Honor Guard, stationed at Fort Meyer, Virginia. He owned and operated a trucking company for 34 years, as well as owning Evans Family Farm, where he raised prize winning Black Angus cattle. Gene was an avid supporter of the Waterford Fair and the 4-H program in Erie County.

Gene was a 60-year member of the Masonic Fraternity, affiliated with the Corry Lodge No. 365, Corry, PA. He served as a Waterford Township Supervisor for six years, and was a member of the Lake Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Marilyn Scott Evans; three daughters, Barbara R. (Terry Ray) Daniels of Waterford, Brenda K. Evans of Erie, and Bethany D. (Stephen) Fritz of Waterford; three grandchildren, Jillian (Chad) Kubeja, Scott Fritz and Brooke Fritz; three great-grandchildren, Kierstin, Taylor and Jackson Kubeja. Additional survivors are his sisters-in-law, Lillie Scott (Paul) Mongera of Union City, Gladys Scott of Waterford; a dear niece, Deborah (David) Gregor of Union City, and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Those preceding him in death include his brother, two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, two nieces and one nephew.

Gene’s wife, Marilyn, was his caregiver at home for seven and a half years before moving to Sarah Reed. Loving thanks to his aides for the past two years at Sarah Reed: Missy, Stephanie, Tiffany, Michele, Alice, Colleen, Ashley, and August (aka “Angus”), also, Mary, Anne, Kat, April and John from Interim Hospice.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 3 – 6 p.m., followed by the funeral service with Rev. Terry T. Brown officiating. A private committal service and burial will be on Wednesday at Waterford Cemetery.
